Research Interests

I have been fascinated by the nanophysical aspect of molecular biology. Personally, I think molecular biology is the future of nanophysics and nanotechnology. I have been amazed by learning how biomolecules manage to manipulate atoms and molecules at nanoscale. So I really would like to understand how they manage to do it. My research interests lie in the theoretical and computational aspects of molecular biophysics. By working closely with experimentalists, I use physics and computers to study and understand these nano-biomolecular machines such as proteins. My current research topics and interests are

  • Ion conduction and pore formation by bacterial protein toxins
  • Behaviours of water molecules around protein and membrane environment
  • Cytoskeletal polymerization of actin and actin like proteins
  • Proton transfer and hydrogen bonded network in biology
  • Rotary mechanism and proton transport in biomolecular motors such as ATP synthase and Flagellar
  • Calcium-dependent membrane binding proteins (Annexin A5)

Our biophysics lab is lacated at room 451, 4th floor,  physical science (Sci 45 years) building. We share the lab space with the computational meterial physics group.

Publications and Books

Most of my published works are on bacterial toxins. However, recently my research interests have been extended into braoader topics such as water dynamics and cytoskeletal proteins.
