Science: Humanity’s universal bridge
Keynote speaker: Prof. Brian Schmidt
Prof. Brian Schmidt is a 2011 Nobel Laureate for Physics at the Australian National University’s Mount Stromlo Observatory. In 1994 he and Nick Suntzeff formed the HighZ SN search team, a group of 20 astronomers on 5 continents who used distant exploding stars to trace the expansion of the Universe back in time. The group‘s discovery of an accelerating Universe was a startling one suggesting that an unknown force is countering the effect of gravity and pushing the Universe apart. Professor Schmidt continues his work using exploding stars to study the Universe and is leading Mt Stromlo’s effort to build the SkyMapper telescope.

The power of metal catalysis transition for a prosperous and sustainable 21st century
Keynote speaker: Prof. Ei-ichi Negishi
Prof. Ei-ichi Negishi is a 2010 Nobel Laureate for Chemistry and the inaugural H.C. Brown Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Purdue University who was awarded the Nobel Prize for his research on palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions in organic synthesis which is being widely used as a technology that drastically accelerates organic synthesis reactivity. Palladium-catalyzed cross coupling led to breakthroughs in DNA sequencing, and practical applications of Professor Negichi’s research include the development of drugs to fight cancer and the manufacture of light-emitting diodes used to make ultrathin television and computer screens.
